Yeah i totally agree mate. But its track time and im using the time to get back on after my crash at broady

Why do they use the full circuit? As far as I'm aware no discipline races it so why practice on it.

  5. #5
Who bloody knows, what a complete fuck up that circuit is.

Agreed, nobody does race on it! What's the point?!
Hard to get motivated to make it happen for the 1st.... I wonder if we could petition ARDC? Anybody know if it's at least liked by any discipline?

It's bloody awful, didn't ride the track from about 2000 until 2014, came back and first ride was on that shit, only rode it once more to realise it was garbage. What a waste of money...

Thats what happens when bean counters designed race tracks - stick to what you know, counting beans and leave the track designing to people who have a clue. There was and is NOTHING wrong with the GP circuit other than the questionable surface which has improved immensely in the past 12months. I miss the old Turn 6 kink though

  13. #13
I have at length tried to explain how much more fun it was to have that little bit of concrete to run over before heading up the hill to people that never experienced it. Seemed to make where you should be on track clearer. Well, to me anyway... Mind you, I'm getting old and have no idea where I am for the first few hours after waking up everyday.

Me too!! It was tops. I miss it.

The extension was purely built so they could run 2 circuits at once (North and South), hence nearly doubling the day's rental fees. As always, money talks. Although I would love to see track hire stats to find out if or how often this actually happens, and if so, how many years the dual-hire days will take to pay back the $9m cost of the extension. Not to mention the cost of the close-to-a-year the whole track was closed completely while they did all the work. What a fuck-up indeed.

And of course, because they've sunk (wasted) all that money into the extension, they have to be seen to be using it.

Did you notice that Stay Upright quickly switched their planned Extended Circuit days to GP Circuit? And that MEGA, the pioneers of cashing in on the 20 extra riders per day are allowed on the extended circuit (45 per session instead of 40 for the GP track) actually shot themselves in the foot because the extended circuit days ended up being very very very poorly attended (like, 50 or 60 total paying customers at a track day, out of a maximum of 180) that they would've been losing money. They alienated a lot of casual customers too.

There are also more crashes on on average on a full circuit day compared to a GP circuit day. I'd say it has a bit to do with it being more fatiguing with the 'go-cart section' added.

Marshy, didn't you once ring about an ARDC day that was to be run on the extended circuit and they changed it to the GP. I can't see the cars objecting. Surely!

Mega did a survey of people at the track one day on which circuit was preferred. The GP was certainly well ahead on the scoresheet when I saw it.
My observation is that most of the better riders love GP circuit and hate extended circuit. WHY?
At my current level of riding I like either but do agree the GP flows better.

I asked them on the day, and they went and thought about it for a while and then said 'no'. One of their arguments was that it "was advertised and the extended circuit and they didn't want to mislead people that had turned up expecting the extended circuit".

I wonder if we could petition for next year??

Late to the party but +1 re the kink!!!

Also, so ARDC has no qualms when dropping AASA even though it was still advertised on their website but changing the layout to one most atendees would prefer is a "no no"? Yep, sounds like motorsports in Australia alright.

Hey lads, I'm in for Thursday, they need 10 entries by Weds lunchtime for it to go ahead.

I agree the extension is crap but $130 for 2.5 hrs of track time on a sunny day can't be beaten!

I reckon ARDC should offer a 'call-in-sick' service, to your nominated responsibility.

Shit can't believe we only have 5 whilst the normal days get 100-160, why do people want to waste their money! I know the full circuit is crap but the value for money is amazing.....

Normal track day punters can't be bothered getting MA/aasa license and ardc membership is my guess.

I don't think it's a money thing. I think it's a 'one person with a session to themselves' that's objected to by the other classes.
I certainly thought it was unfair that open wheelers didn't have to register and frequently had only one driver lapping, until quite recently.

Yeah, that's true about the numbers per session. Just a shame people have such aversion to the long track.

Nah, it's just a shame they insist on running race practices on a track that nobody races on!
They never run North Circuit for example, even that would make more sense. It's purely because they have to be seen to use it. Ridiculous!
