    Totally missed this buddy, sorry!!
5 seconds is a hell of an improvement!! What's changed?? Just track time?
These vids are crazy, so weird without the roar of internal combustion.
How's the torque curve??! I hear it's utter madness from the get-go?!

Mostly got to know the track better, Its only my 4th time on it. The sweeper and tight back section is where I clean up but the bike is a bit faster, good tires and perfect weather.
As you can hear the sound isn't as loud but its cool the way theres no gearshift interruption and the thing just keeps screaming. None of our motors spin faster than 6000 rpm single speed which is only half what an R6 does. A lot of motors will do 11000 rpm but just don't need to, all about torque.
Coolest thing about electric is the simplicity of riding. Theres no pedals, your feet do nothing. Just sit your toes on the pegs to keep them away from the tarmac when cornering. Front brake is standard, throttle is fly by wire (pot) and rear brake (regen / kers) is on left Hbar. No rear disc brake.
Want to put a light B grader on it for next year, maybe one of the Ninja guys.

Hahaha, yeah!! It's like you've engaged warp drive. I was expecting to see the stars stretch out into lines
That's cool about the pegs, one less thing to focus on I guess. What about engine braking..? is there any?

Normally on throttle off theres nothing, even with a magnet motor, so you have to get your laptop and dial in some throttle off regen. I dont have any engine brake just angel gear but the lever on the left is both rear brake and engine brake so I can scrub off a bit going into the apex on full angle or brake slide into a hairpin.
When Curtain rode it in 2013 he said the angel gear freaked him out. He was straight up 5 seconds faster than me on his second lap at EC.
Sticking with the Thug Life theme for 2015.

So, it's like coasting onto a corner? Man, that'd take some getting used to.
Interesting you've got rear/engine on the left tho, kinda like a thumb brake I guess.
What sort of cash do these things go for? Just a ballpark range... Entry level to top spec?

You can coast if you want just by chopping the throttle, but if you want engine brake you have to pull the left lever.
You can hear it working in the first video on lap 1 going into T3 the motor goes quiet as it rear gets light then spins back up.
Its like the GP bikes, they actually ride the clutch lever going into a turn to get a bit more slip or reduce engine brake.
Theres some onbike vids you can see their fingers pull the clutch lever a few mill.
I don't like to have anything that's supposed to be variable locked into a preset value.
Voltron cost $45k, Motor & Controller were $20k.
I may have spent $35k over the last 5 years.
Next bike, I want to start with an RSV4 rolling chassis. Probly cost $30k but that would make the fastest electric race bike.
A German RC motor company is about to release a 400v motor controller combo that weighs 15kg and is good for 175hp.

Is it just weight and bad suspension slowing down the voltron? It's a weapon in a straight line, but clearly doesn't like stopping. Or turning.

    All of the above.
Its got a ZX6 front end. A Ducati 600 Swingarm and 160 rear tire. and it still weighs 220kg with its smaller battery pack (6kWh).
Plus to get the rear to work its best they had to raise it so much its rake is 21 degrees !!!
Pottz has an accelerometer that hes put on both our bikes at Mallala. We get the same speed through the kink but braking into the hairpin I pull 1.05G
and he pulls 0.72. That's 31% less brakes than me. MotoGP's do 1.7G
The short straight at Winton, hes got the power to pass me but doesn't have to brakes to stop afterwards so he has to wait for the longer straight.
The blue bike needs help too. Its motor is 450mm diameter and it has a jack shaft that goes behind the motor meaning the motor sits so far foreward,
the front tire rubs on it under full brakes. Jason (Morris) has had the rear wheel come up 10cm off the track cause the front locked when the motor slammed into it.
You can see dark rub marks on the center of the tire when he's going through turns.

    One moving part...
This is Voltron, 700v 300A has Dyno'd at 230hp. Has rear disc brake and "engine brake" or throttle off regen. Single speed no clutch no neutral.
You can see at the start the amps climbs very slowly so theres no max torque at 0 rpm. The bike would do 3 back flips if it did.
This bike just got a new swingarm, GSXR rear wheel and 200 tire so is getting out of corners a lot quicker now than last year. Still need its suspension sorted though.

You only had 2 laps but got your head around it pretty quick.
With Brad Swallows skills, I got it handling even better now. Hes a good suspension tuner.
Im going to ST George club meeting in Gymea on the 27th and try to make it to Wakefield for the RJays round

After 6 years and over 6000 racing kilometres, the Ripperton R1 has had its first racing crash. Brad is ok but he totalled a set of brand new leathers and a helmet. Was a high side in T3 and Brad flew all the way to the tire wall with a thud.
The bike is a bit rashed but is fixable.
Brads dad is looking around for a new fibreglass fairing.

WA rider TAZ VanVuuren holeshots the twins race from the back of the grid. Keeps Panigale on back straight.
Unfortunately electrics only have range for 4 laps in the 8 lap Twins Naked race.

Not a lot of time spent with both wheels on the ground... Under brakes that thing seems pretty wild from the onboard camera.

Ignorant question I suppose but do they regen at all during the race?

Yup, Voltron has about 15kW of throttle off regen.

  20. #20
Is that why it was sort of kicking sideways off throttle? Either way, that thing is mental... loved the start!

Its kicking because the front end is too pissy for its 230kg and Taz has to slam the lever to get it to stop, bottoms out and lifts the ass.
The rear pads were on the metal so it just didnt have enough brakes to match its grunt. Chris had the power turned almost all the way up.
