    Today

Did anyone buy anything today , Nick

  2. #2
    I might've

Maybe. Possibly. It could be an ugly rumour, or it could be true.

    Let me see....

I bought an exhaust. An air filter. Some GB covers. Talked about suspension. Chain and sprockets. Ummm, what else? Something.... something. What was it?

Still thinking..... oh that's right!! A 2016 R1 called "WeR2" (the first one I built was WeR1). Just R2 for short.

But this one's a keeper. For a bit, anyway.

NO, that was the best sounding R1 I've heard.

So the rumour I heard yesterday is true, another one has joined the R1 gang, does this mean you are no longer an Aprilia racer.........?

Nup. I love love love my Aprilia. I'm not even considering properly switching. But the thing is, after a year of development, the damn thing is absolutely perfect!! So I'm bored. I'm only really, truly happy when I'm dialling in a bike. Even though sometimes I 'hate' it, and it frustrates the hell out of me!

We all have our 'things'. Kris loves building his exotica superbike, Baddie just likes building a bike, not riding it that much. SteveM just wants a laptime. Ed pretends he rides motorcycles (although lately that's unfair, cos he's been out a lot). I like getting a new bike fully set up and dialled in.

And let's be honest; I'm heavily influenced by peer pressure.

So once you get it as good as the Aprilia then you will have a massive dilemma! You could always ride one in Unlimited/Form Oz and the other in BEARS/FX Twins.......

The thing with the Aprilia is, once you ride something else it doesnt take you long to realise the V4 is a weapon of a bike and you want to be on one again

I agree Kris. I'm just having a brief flight of fancy..... a fling if you will. A stormy, sordid affair!

Speaking of which, this arrived late this arvo. And no, it's not the one in pic above!

As it arrived, then a short while later:

Meet WeR2 (stripped down) and Sugar on the hoist). I had visions of having Sugar on track tomorrow, but unfortunately the back wheel has a teeny ding in it. It's probably fine to ride on, but why risk it.

The headers are a little squished too:

R2 has both wheels damaged, no dash, no key, subframe damaged, fairing stay etc.

Couldn't resist, so Junior swapped the headers over whilst I was playing at the track today. Then I did some work when I got home (new chain and sprockets, made up a couple of brackets, fitted some slicks) and Sugar is ready to hit the track tomorrow!!!!

Rear wheels are both back from Laurie, all sorted. The front end is back too, having passed with flying colours. The front wheel is a longer term project for Dave. Not sure if it's fixable.

I did! I just said "send me everything you've got for the R1". There's auto-blipper, auto-tune, pit limiter switch, and some stuff I don't know what it does. Looks good though!! Considering everything included, it was pretty cheap. The flash of the ecu means I don't need to get a new key, and the fuel maps and auto-tune mean I don't need to dyno tune it. So, really, I'm saving money by buying this

It took me 2 years to get the hang of a quick shifter, autoblip should be interesting. Not to mention launch control.

  37. #37
The R1 comes standard with Launch. So it'll be interesting to see which is better. And the Launch on the Aprilia is so good, the Yammie will have to be pretty special to beat it.

Is someone on their game better than launch control do you think or are they that good?

  39. #39
A bit of both. For me, I could never get my old RSV4 off the line. So the LC is a revelation. But Brett starting next to me on the grid on an identical bike but without using LC, gets better starts 8 times out of 10. So it's swings and roundabouts. For me, it's the best thing ever.

Apparently they can run a bit hot Marshy' Have you see any figures on the air flow compared to stock for the radiator guard. The oil cooler has a guard stock but they leave the radiator bare, don't know if that is for costs or any other reason. It could be like a venturi effect and speed up thru the holes, no idea.

TBH I ordered the oil cooler cover before I realised they already had one standard. Oops.

The risk of being sidelined by a hole in the radiator (like Glenn was at Pirelli at PI this year) is too high not to run a guard. Not sure about the effect on cooling..... we will see.
