    Race bike pics

So a customer asked me to make the bike 'pretty'. That was it; no further instruction. Reckon I succeeded?

The red is muuuch brighter in the flesh - as soon as I view the pics through a browser, the colour just washes out of them

    What did you do Marshy?'

Also is that a tank cover on the R6?

    Similar to what happens here:

I saw this car in person more than a few times and the color in the pics is not even close... it's more like very bright fluoro orange with a hint of red. A mate of mine who's my photoshop expert said it's actually 'caused by the white color and gave me an awesome explanation that really made sense at the time. I'll not even try to replicate what he said 'cause there's a good chance I'll accidently explain a principle of quantum physics instead. And I know nothing about quantum physics.

Oh... and answering your question, yes you succeeded! But much like on the McLaren I reckon it'd benefit from some stickers in black on the white bits...

Ps: Believe it or not, having an old McLaren inspired paintjob was on my to do list back when I had the R6!

Looks great Marshy ... is there a before shot of the bike?

Yeah reds often just don't pop as much in pictures as they do in real life, especially in the right sunlight.

So he just needs some numbers now ... as do I ... hint hint

Ed, the really strange thing is that the pics look fine on my computer. It's just when I upload those same pics to the website and view them in Chrome, they suddenly look shit. Same exact jpg files, just rendered differently I guess. I understand the whole bit about cameras not capturing colours correctly, but this is different. Oh well.

Chubb, yes, that is a tank cover. It fits like a glove - nice and snug, so it won't move around under braking. It's an option on most Superbike Source fairings. And it saved me making the tank pretty (you don't wanna see what it's like underneath! )

I'll do some stickers tomorrow. And find some before shots - I'm sure I have some somewhere....

Does it render right in one of the other browsers on your machine, IE or Safari, could be a colour rendering bug in Chrome?

Most web apps will recompress any uploaded files, this is where the quality and color goes to.

Hmmm, interesting! More investigation needed (presumably vBulletin is doing it).

    colour space ...

    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=698213

In simple terms, your Mac is smart enough to look inside the image file and see what color space is being used. (Color space is the mapping of numbers in the file to color on the screen) the Aperture, Photoshop and the like all do this correctly but other software is not so well written and just blindly assums that the color space is "sRGB".

The best way to fix this is to convert the image to sRGB before you upload it. But be careful in "Adobe Speak" you want to "convert" not "assign" to the sRGB color space.

Here is screen shot of an export of RAWs (from Canon) using Aperture - use the sRGB IEC61966-2.1 colour profile and the colour space should be honoured by even the most poorly written app. See if the reds pop on the bike when you upload again.

Nup. I get all that colour stuff now, thanks! I wondered whether the Photoshop 'export for web' was causing it, but have ruled that out and ensured that it's saved with the colour profile (it was already in sRGB anyway, as it turns out). Also, bypassed ftp upload to see if maybe that was causing it, but no again. Still no joy.
