Thread: Pirelli RR at Phillip Island

    Pirelli RR at Phillip Island

So last year, a whole bunch of us Sydneysiders trekked down to PI for a round of the Pirelli Road Race series, run by Preston MCC club (St George equivalent in Vic). At the time I was fairly critical of the lack of track time for a 600. I don't believe they have fixed that issue, however I now have a BEARs-eligible bike, and can cross-enter, thus negating the track time issue by doubling it

So I'm keen. Chrispy will be coming down, and I'm sure there'll be others too. Anyone else thinking of entering this?? There's a Friday practice day, then two days of racing.

30/31 of August for the Pirelli round. The St George Broadford round is on the following weekend 6/7 Sept. Maybe we could do trackdays all week between rounds.

AWESOME idea!! A couple of days at the Island, then a couple of days at Broady before the weekend, with a rest day in between.

Ahhh, I wish. I'd be divorced by the time I got back.

I didn't realise it was only a week in between (the calendar spreads it across two pages....). Oh well. Needs must, and all that.

The Hartford round in a couple of weeks at PI would have been a good race meet to go to as well. It just sucks that you need money to race and I don't have any at the moment.

I contacted them to check about cross-entering, and they had no 2nd class for me to enter (Over 600 only). So it would be like Pirelli RR last year, where there was bugger-all track time and it wasn't worth the drive. These Mexicans clearly don't know how to structure a race meet. They should take tips from St George!

Last year on the exact same dates it was balmy, warm, sunny mid-20s weather for all three days. Shorts-and-t-shirt weather! So you can never tell at the Island. Mid-summer has had worse weekends than we had.

I'm keen as to do this again. And if it just so happens there's a couple of days at broadford before another race meet. Why not ?!

I'd rather go to PI and do a double or triple header of TDs. Track time was pathetic last year

Totally agree with you mate. If I didn't now have a BEARs bike (ie I can enter two classes, and I think BEARs are favoured too because it's a national champ round) then I wouldn't be going either. I was pitted with Chrispy last year (he did BEARs and 1000s) and he was on track every 5 minutes! Moss grew on my ankles in between my times on track.

I'm in I think. I will need to grab a set of Pirelli Supercorsas for the 600... but I'm pretty keen!

    Hey there,

Below is a link to the entry form for the practice day at Phillip Island the day before the Pirelli weekend.
I was looking at this online at the same time i got a phone call asking me to do the Queen tour that runs from the 20th August until the 1st September. Motherf**ker.
I haven't said yes yet. Its so hard to say no to money to spend money.....
At least i'll still make it to Broadford either way.

Thanks Jamie. Coincidentally, I sent my form in yesterday for this.

Tough call on the gig versus racing at the Island!!

    Pirelli RR at Phillip Island

Hello People! Can we get a show of hands who is entering?

I'm entered and will be heading off from Canberra in the wee hours of the morning Thursday 28th and then probably heading down the Hume to PI.

Me and Owen are driving down together on Thursday. Actually that's not quite accurate..... I'm driving Owen's car down, while he flies to Melbourne and I pick him up from Tullamarine airport on the way through to PI. I'm not quite sure how that happened..... he's obviously a better salesman than me

Chris P is tagging along in a separate car.

We are staying down there for the 4 days between PI and St George at Broadford. Actually, isn't there another thread somewhere?
