Help: Brake Drag

Last time I cleaned my pistons I took the pads out put a 10mm Allen key between the pistons & pumped them out until they held the Allen key. Spayed them with mr sheen a few times & them cleaned them with an old tooth brush. Then wiped them clean with a rag. Not sure if this is the correct way but worked for me.

That's why I took the pads out. It worked but I still don't know if it's the right way to do it.
