Pretty keen to hear how this went! Stories pls.
Was it as cold as expected?
Marty, have you jumped ship to yamaha??? Natsoft says so.
And to those comments earlier about england having cold summer....strangley enough I am currently experiencing a "heat wave" at daytime temps of 26 degrees! - and not yet been to the track
A fun day had by Carl in his 1st ever attempt at racing in RYM and only his 2nd time at Wakefield, but i will let him fill in the details
I'd love an update too! I just got back from PI. Dead tired, but some great racing! I'm pleased to say I finished in 8th place overall in the 2014 Australian Superbike Championship!

Hmmm I suppose it could do with a resurface and more modern curbs... especially T5!! But tbh (and I had sh@#t luck there) I quite like it the way it is.
I scored 2nd Place for the round and 3rd place in the unlimited "B" grade series :-)

I have just about thawed out Carl now ill give him a prod and see if he is awake yet !!
Well done Nick, sounds like you had a brilliant weekend
Hey James! Glad someone's got some nice weather (heat wave haha). It was -5 at WP at 7am eek! But it turned into a nice day.
Yeh I jumped ship but not by choice. My beloved Honda has been playing up and I been busting my ass to fix it chasing the problem. I ran out of time and my mate very kindly lent me his R6. Unfortunately it was set up for 190 ntecs and the geometry was all wrong, it was so hard to ride it's not even funny! Luckily Stu23 was in my garage and helper me all day to adjust it and led us to discover what the problem is. I'm gonna help my mate get it sorted.
I think I found the problem with my cbr last night so I will hopefully have it going for St George where I can attempt to redeem myself!!
Amazingly I managed to win 3rd outright in D grade 600 in the series. I did terrible on Sunday and didn't even enter round 1.
HA thawed out now!!! Honestly the weather didnt bother me all day. First time at wakey was 3 months prior to this and i had managed a single 1:11.8 on that day, in my first practice/qualie we had decided to "play the game" and do some slow laptimes turns out i was straight back to the 1:12s!!!! and that was with quick throttle, qs, new dyno map and ecu stuff, suspension changes basically a new bike.
First race i won my row and was 1st 600 behind a few zx10r's (4th on the track), got the times and i had done a 1:08.5!!!!! so thats a 4 second PB already.
Second race, i got stuck behind a zx10 at the start and came in 2nd (6th on the track), did another 1:08...
Third race, got away clean got another 1st (5th on track) and dropped to a 1:07.8!!!!!!! WOOO
Last race, i needed to win it to win my row, got a great start came out in 4th after T2 and had a massive race long battle with the guy i had to beat (Jake Kell) all came down to the last corner where i was overtaking a slower rider and he was over taking me!! pulled it back tight, gave it a handful dirt track style, wheelied and slid it out of the corner and out dragged him to the line Got first place trophy and a faster 1:07.6 winning!!!!
Doing vids as i post this from front and rear cameras.
tyres looks perfect, just need to put some stiffer springs in the front so i can be more stable under braking and i know i can drop another second easy from improving into the T1/T2 , T8 and T10 (felt like i could brake alot later but the bike was too unstable to try)
I was cold... needed a heater to thaw out the whole day
my fingers weren't working
Don't bring your crazy logic into my awesome equation... sheesh. How dare you?
I'm with Ed on this one..... any excuse to eat more!!
Not that I need one, obviously.

eat more???? that isnt possible for me!!!!! the only problem is i just keep getting taller :( I have barely any extra weight anywhere and im now pushing 80kg :(
do not encourage carl to eat more............ my budget will not cope !
Does that mean less go-fast gadgets for you two? If so I'm afraid I support it unconditionally! Hahaha
Or Carl... Or Carl! Let's not discriminate now, shall we?
Just saw this on FB
I see you're rocking the new set of wheels and it begs the questionSSS!!
How do you like them?! Did you get the chance to weigh them against the stockies? I suppose the Ape stockies are pretty light already though... but could you tell any difference?
I think that's all... for now.

yeh we tried a few clicks of rebound on the rear and it settled it a little, its just funny because the forks were ok, now they are 1 click from full hard on comp and rebound and quite a few turns of preload. Need to stop growing and need stiffer springs!!!!! The height is now a solid 6'2" and pushing 80 kg. Rearsets are as low and as far back as possible and the bars are almost flat bars so i have space...
Getting faster will also have an impact on your settings as it means you'll be braking harder and carrying more speed... not that I know that from experience, of course.

Yeh i definitely experienced that throughout the day!! who knew 6 seconds was such a difference
They are great. And bad. They look nice, but attract dust to the surface like they are some form of dust-magnet! 5 minutes after cleaning, they are dusty again. They are light, but not as light as the Factory wheels. And they take a different rear sprocket and carrier, so I need to have two sprockets the same for switching between oem wheels and these ones. Captive spacers (like the Aprilia oem) are nice. And when clean, they look great! Even if I wouldn't have personally chosen the colour.
The Ape comes with two different wheel types - the R model (mine are all R models) comes with cast aluminium wheels, and the Factory comes with lighter forged aluminium. I bought a set of used Factory wheels from the US recently, so weighed them all recently (except the rear Carrozerria. Oops).
Wheel weights (without discs):
- - - - - - Stock R - - - Carrozerria - - - Factory
Front: - - - - 4.0kg - - - - 3.5kg - - - - - - 3.2kg
Rear: - - - - -6.4kg - - - - ??? - - - - - - - 4.9kg
I didn't weigh the rear Carrozerria, but it's very light. I'd say close to the Factory weight (closer than the front is).

Cheers, that's some cool info in that post!
I figured that wouldn't be much in it but didn't expect them to be heavier than the Factory ones seeing as they're both forged Aluminum (oh boy, I don't say Aluminium!!).
I didn't think the color was that great either but it suits that paint scheme really well IMHO. Like, REAAAALLY well!

thats a big weight difference, would help heaps with acceleration not having so much mass to turn.

Makes you wonder how the Magnesium ones go...
Not much difference..
3. Aprilia RSV Mille RR-1000R NERA OZ-Magnesium front: 3,10 Kg
4. Aprilia RSV Mille RR-1000R NERA OZ-Magnesium rear: 4,30 Kg
BST are even nicer and lighter, but can only run them in the BEARS
Hmmm... that really isn't much. Especially the front.
I wouldn't get CF though. It would drive me mental thinking if they're still safe to ride... I know chances are 99.9% that they would be but my OCD would play up I'm sure.
Found this old article just now
http://www.sportrider.com/hoop-it-sp...eel-comparison
Not sure how up to date those specs are but still pretty interesting.
I noticed most GP/WSBK bikes use the Marvic Pentas but unfortunately they don't test the forged version in the article...

The dude on the ZX10 has a brand new set of sliders for sale, I hear... hahaha
Nice article Ed, thanks! Interesting reading for sure.
The ape Factory forged aluminium are known for being the lightest OEM wheels of just about any volume-produced road bike. And equal to some other brand's mags.

Great weather is pointless if you're not at the track. about to book my first day at silverstone.
Good to hear your your still team Honda. What do you mean by set up for 190's...you were running 180s or something?
Congrats on the 3rd place!! Im keen to know where i sit after only one round.
Awesome! Keep us posted about silverstone.
Yeh the R6 was originally setup for a 190 combo and we just put 180s on it without jacking the rear back up.. D'oh.
Hey mate, I don't want to get your hopes up, it but looks like you got 3rd in 600 retro D grade! Am I reading this right?
