lol and no reasoning to tell you why...
"Cameras are allowed to be used at Sydney Motorsport Park Ride Days. There are certain rules and regulations relating to the use of cameras. They are as follows...
Filming Policies:
1.All camera mountings must securely mounted and be manufacturer specification. No duct tape, bungee cords or other temporary mounts.
2.All cameras must be mounted so as to not create a hazard to the rider or other riders in the event of a crash or collision.
3.Cameras can be mounted on motorcycles only. No cameras attached to helmets and / or any other parts of the riders body.
4.All cameras and mounts must be scrutineered with the motorcycle on the morning of the event, or before being used in the riders first session.
5.There are to be no cables or other attachments between the motorcycle and rider.
6.Any footage released publicly that is deemed inappropriate to be viewed (such as crashes and / or situations resulting in serious injuries to participants) and / or footage that is considered damaging to the venue, promoter or industry, could result in the banning of the rider from future Sydney Motorsport Park Ride Days or California Superbike School events."
Does it even matter, really?
I have to say though... I didn't expect them to go all out like that. If it was me running the show I would have made it so that only riders that have completed more than say 5(?) track days would be allowed... This way you trim off the one goers that will be there pushing way beyond their limit just 'cause they have a camera on their bikes, give something back to the 'loyal' customer and it would also work as an incentive to those who are new to keep coming back.
No lap timers
Great!! Cameras are cool

Wonder if Stay Upright will allow them too?Seems a strange decision for mega considering they are out in a few months?
Not complaining though.
I suppose the process with insurers ect would have stated a while back, and they still have CSS so no point not implementing it. Can't hurt to soften the publics perception, also paves the way for P.I ???
Didn't they only allow cameras on the body not bike at the last St George meat?
Yes, in accordance with the daft rule that crept unnoticed into the GCRs, and which was sensibly never enforced until someone insisted on an on-the-spot ruling from the Steward, which meant they had no choice but to uphold the rule. I've already submitted a rule-change submission to MA.

Because some wacker wanted to press the point and left the steward no option but to follow the rule book.
Sorry
Only if you say please. You did mean rump, not hump, didn't you?
To be fair, there's not many people's timers I have had to do anything about. If it's not obvious, they usually slip through unnoticed.
For the record, the 'no lap timers at ride days' is an ARDC rule for MEGA to comply with, so I doubt there will be a change with that one, but the 'no cameras' was always a MEGA imposed rule and was simply there to align Sydney with Philip Island's rules of 'no cameras', which are imposed by the owners of PI.

That would be me ....
After I was the one that had the "No Camera Rule" implemented and imposed on me in scrutineering! <gob smacked>
I was hoping that I could get sanity to prevail but ....
As to the Steward following the rules ... there is NO RULE about cameras on bikes - Just on Helmets <stupid>

For future reference, Linden, whenever an over-zealous scrutineer imposes their own rules, the usual response is "yes, Sir" and then sort it out yourself later on.

Speaking of camera's, any recommendations? Thinking GoPro would be the way to go but not sure of which model?
It was kind of both of us Linden... After you mentioned your result in scrutineering i told Terry that my bike had been scrutineered with Camera's on and "Cam OK" had been written on my scrutineering sticker.
He then went back to the Steward for clarification who said no camera's. So, actually, fuck it, yeah it is your fault.....
The dumb part of the rulebook thing is that if its not in there, it is to be assumed that it is not allowed.
Figured it was just too stupid and would be approved without any real issue
I didn't know the Steward at this round suspect it was her first and the easiest answer is NO
I'm still stuffed as to why after passing X no of bikes with cameras they (the scrutineers - and it was weird how it happened) suddenly decided to say no cameras
Just wondering when unnecessary thing like Axle sliders (been hit by one of them) Knee Sliders (been hit by one of them) FootPegs (NEARLY been hit by one of them - off a Laverda .5KG of Steel ) will be banned

Tongue firmly in cheek ... the reason we are out there racing is for sheep stations NO NO personal enjoyment and some of that comes from photos and video etc to review later ... banning cameras is not going to work well for St George UNLESS it all racing ie for some (not me cos shots of all the people riding away is a bit boring) the cameras are ONE of the reasons they are there
still chukkling away
Where / how do u guys generally mount the camera for filming forwards? Rear view is pretty simply fronts got a few options.
Thanks Stevem! A guy at work who does a lot bike stuff recommended the GoPro Hero4. There's a good shop over at Lindfield called Camzilla that specialises in mounts etc. so I might go and check it out.
Cheers, Andrew
One bike I have the gopro mounted on the front of the fairing, on one side. It's a great view forwards, but it looks totally shit in photos of the bike from trackside!! The other bike it's mounted on the top triple, looking through the screen. The big advantage is you can see the dash/tacho etc, so you can analyse your riding better. The downside is that the view through the screen is restricted. I'm gonna try and copy SteveM's setup, which is on the front of the tank, but moved a long way low and forwards with extensions. When I've previously tried mounting onto the tank, I always bump it when I tuck under the screen.

Just a heads up; have your camera fitted for scrurineering so that they can be checked, so that you get a sticker that says you have a camera; otherwise you won't be allowed on track with it fitted to the bike.
