    Back protectors

What do you use and why?

I'm thinking of replacing my MX fox one that I use for road racing with something else which is more flexible and comfortable.

    Fire away

I use the Astars Bionic back protector. This one.

My only gripe with it is that it doesn't come down quite far enough to cover my tail bone.

I use the RS Taichi one it's quite long and has a lot of adjustment. And I think is very comfortable

Forcefield. I'm sold on them on size alone... but to be honest I wanted to upgrade to their Sub4 model which offers even more protection even though it's a bit bulkier. Read on it and you'll see what I'm talking about.

I looked at the forcefield ones. They look like no air would circulate? Are they hot?

Not at all... I had the Alpinestars before and it was definitely hotter. I tried a Dainese too but it was too thick for my leathers and not very flexible so it was definitely a no no for me

Do you have the force field ED?

I'm actually just rocking a cheap R-Jays one, and I couldn't be happier! It's light, cool, long, comfy but rugged. And it's cheap!! I've crashed countless times in it, and it feels great.

I'm thinking about replacing my older dainese one with either an Alpinestars because I can add a chest protector or a Knox one because I am a big fan of their work.

Yep, I have the model bellow the sub4 because it wasn't out when I bought mine.

I'm TERRIFIED about being paraplegic. I mean it. It's like all life's fear x1000... I'm honestly more scared of it than sharks/spiders/theft/or any other irrational fear you can think of, so I have no issues paying more for a piece of gear that might save me from that fate. I've crashed many times on mine (as has been widely publicized hahaha) and I'm sure I'm safe riding with it but if the Sub4 can offer even a little bit more then that's what I want to wear when I ride.

Airbags are waaaaaaay out of my league or I would have it already. It didn't stop me from having a good look though.

I can retrofit an airbag to my suit A* Race rep.

I didn't pay anywhere near $3K (it came with a free back protector to boot)

  16. #16
But how much is it to retrofit the airbag and how much does it cost to keep it running?

  17. #17
I can't actually find it for sale anywhere haha.

Spidi suits can be bought for less than $3K though (the airbag versions) http://www.fc-moto.de/epages/fcm.sf/...ther-Suit-0002

$2K including VAT so would end up sub $2K including shipping

When I last looked at them last year that's how much they where. It's not like I was quoting an accurate price.
And RS Taichi make a air bag vest that goes over your suit that's about $400.
